What happens if I lose my password for Killswitch?

If you lose your password, you'll need to use the recovery codes provided during registration to regain access. Due to Killswitch's zero-knowledge architecture, these codes are the only way to recover your account, as even the Killswitch team cannot access your encrypted data.

How secure is Killswitch's encryption?

Killswitch uses AES-256-GCM encryption, similar to 1Password and Bitwarden. Files are encrypted directly in your browser before being uploaded, and encryption keys are derived from your password, ensuring a high level of security and zero-knowledge privacy.

What happens to my data if I cancel my Killswitch subscription?

Upon cancellation, your account enters read-only mode until the billing period ends. If inactive for 90 days, your account and all associated data will be permanently deleted. Warning emails are sent prior to deletion, and you can resubscribe to prevent this.

Can beneficiaries access files without a Killswitch account?

Yes, when a deadman switch triggers, beneficiaries receive a unique secure link via email. They do not need a Killswitch account to download their assigned files directly, simplifying access during a difficult time.

Are my files still zero-knowledge if I set up a deadman switch?
